I was recently invited to try the new brunch menu at Tony Mandola's Gulf Coast Kitchen. Tony Mandolas is a New Orleans style Oyster Bar and Seafood House, with an Italian flair. Known for its fresh Texas Gulf Seafood - shrimp, oysters, fish, and home-made pastas, red beans and rice, Mama's Gumbo, and Mama's Bourbon Bread Pudding. Tony Mandola's quickly grew popularity since its time in River Oaks as "Tony Mandola's Blue Oyster Bar", 30+ years ago. This popularity prompted the closing of the oyster bar and the opening of Tony Mandola's Gulf Coast Kitchen on Waugh Drive.
The restaurant is owned by one of the beloved families of Houston food, The Mandola's. I'm always fascinated by their history and stories of how they came to be. Owners Phyllis and Tony Mandola's welcomed us in to try their new brunch menu, which is now available to the public every Sunday 10am-3pm.
We started the morning with a glass of their Frozen Hurricane and a little conversation, then we followed with a couple of dishes from the brunch menu. I'll just stop here and let my photos and comments do the talking. happy Drooling!
