The festival is said to have begun in the '60's shortly after Breaux Bridge was named the crawfish capitol of the world. Since then, every year around this time people head to Breaux Bridge for this annual celebration. The fun takes place the first weekend of May, and you can probably find the whole town celebrating in their own way.
The festival features all kinds of fun for both adults and children, from Cajun Zydeco music and dancing, to fun rides and games. Let's not forget the food though, there is plenty of crawfish dishes of all sorts like; crawfish beignets, crawfish mac and cheese and others. We grabbed some beignets, Alligator on a stick, frog legs and some daiquiris to wash it all down while we enjoyed some music.

While in Breaux Bridge, you can find the locals celebrating right in their backyard. As it's become a tradition to many, it is also a time for family, friends, and neighbors to get together. The fun takes place in the garage or front yard, where you can find tables and chairs in the front yard, where crawfish preparations are taking place.
Living in the south and so close to the Gulf makes Houston a perfect place to have crawfish in Texas. Over the past couple of years, Houston has grown its own tradition, with places offering Cajun-influenced crawfish as well as the city's own Vietnamese style crawfish. As a newbie, that's one style I haven't quite had much of, but will definitely try some at a local spot soon! Where do you get your crawfish from?
Special thanks to Old Fashioned Tastes for the collaboration

I nearly licked my computer screen as I gazed at all of the Cajun goodness you had! I can just taste the gator on a stick! How did you like the crawfish? I'm familiar with the Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival bc I have a few friends there, yet I have never attended. Sadly, I stopped in Breaux Bridge yesterday to grab crawfish boudain from Poshes, and later found out that I had just missed the last of festival. Thanks to your post, I'll try to attend next year.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a nice quiet town. You should definitely pass by next time, all you need is a few hours at the festival then you can go celebrate more at home :)
DeleteAny festival that starts with the BREAUX (Bro.) is my type of party. Minus the crawfish, I would have torn everything up! Great post!
ReplyDeleteHahahah...One of these days you're gonna try Crawfish! 😄
