Two weeks ago, I along with some local food bloggers and writers was invited out for a preview of Sal Y Pimienta's Houston Restaurant Weeks menu. For starters, I had never visited this restaurant before in my life, so my curiosity was peaked. And after looking over their restaurant weeks menu, I just knew that I had to try this place. Sal Y Pimienta(which translates to salt & pepper) is a local restaurant looking to give us a close taste of South American cuisine. The restaurant is located in the beautiful City Center off of I-10 headed west, and is not hard to miss with their unique decor with a pop of orange all over.
As you walk up to Sal Y Pimiento you are met by their orange outdoor sign and patio umbrellas, but then as you walk in you'll feel inspired by their reclaimed wood walls, and wine box inspired kitchen bar( at least I was!!). The restaurant has a lovely bar at the entrance which can be used or if you prefer full-service, you can dine in their main area. To start the evening, we received a small lesson on their grass fed meats, and where they are sourced. We all dined as a group in their private room, which also houses their large repertoire of wines.
As you know, Houston Restaurant Weeks gives the Houston public the chance to give back to the community by dining at participating restaurants, with proceeds going to The Houston Food Bank. Participating restaurants make donations depending on how many brunches, lunches of dinners they sell. The Houston Food Bank is the largest food bank in America, and from what I've gotten to see, they do a great job for the community.
